History
Western Star was founded as a division of White Motor Company in 1967. It was initially called White Western Star and was located in Kelowna, British Columbia. The company eventually moved its production to Ogden, Utah, and it was purchased a few years later by Australian subsidiary owners in 1991.
In 2000, the company was picked up by DaimlerChrysler as a part of its Freightliner Trucks division. A few years later, Western Star moved production to a plant in Portland, Oregon. Additional manufacturing facilities were opened in Cleveland, North Carolina in 2015.
Today, Western Star Trucks is still a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America. The company is the world’s leading producer of custom heavy-duty rigs. Their vehicles feature top of the line power, comfort, convenience, and durability.
Models
Western Star manufactures a variety of Class 8 commercial vehicles for off-road and highway usage. There are five different model families. The company is particularly good at building customized vehicles for specific needs. You can choose from a range of configurations for the interiors, engines, transmissions, suspension systems, and brakes. This is ideal for independent truck owners and fleet managers who need a vehicle specifically designed for their jobs.
The company has continued to push the industry forward and has focused on adding safety features like anti-lock braking systems, improved traction and stability, and more. These upgrades were added to adhere to the United States’ DOT regulations.
Western Star also manufactures vehicles for their international market! They offer right-hand drive trucks for their markets in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. The company also has an impressive history that includes producing rigs for the United States military and Canadian Forces, as well as featuring their vehicles in movies and TV.
